Air conditioner condensate drain leaking

Texas weather highlights HVAC issues

25 January

Last week we have seen multiple instances of leaks and mold caused by home HVAC systems having blocked or broken condensate drains.

With the weather in the high 90's and 100's for the last month or so, your HVAC systems have been having to work overtime to keep your home cool.

A byproduct of this, is the formation of water as the AC system does its job. This water is supposed to run down a drain line into a P trap drain under a bathroom sink or in some cases directly outside.

When these get clogged due to dirt and growth, the water finds another route to exit. This results in what you see in the attached photograph.

Sometimes its obvious quickly by a pool of water appearing, but other times it can go on unnoticed for weeks or months resulting in microbial growth.

Keep an eye on your systems and act quickly should you spot anything wrong.
